Monitoring Progress with SynMax Vulcan: CP2 LNG Project Begins Engineering and Initial Site Work
Although Venture Global announced on June 3, 2025, that engineering and site work have officially commenced for its Calcasieu Pass 2 (CP2) LNG export project, SynMax Vulcan has been closely monitoring progress via satellite imagery since February 2025 . The latest observations, as of imagery captured on June 9, 2025, confirm that initial land clearing has begun, though it appears that it began much earlier, as the imagery below shows.
CP2 LNG will be developed in two phases, each with a capacity of 10 MTPA, resulting in a total nameplate capacity of 20 MTPA. This project will share facilities with the existing 10 MTPA Calcasieu Pass LNG terminal located adjacent to the site. The proposed CP Express pipeline will deliver feed gas—sourced from its Transco and CJ Express interconnections in Texas—along a route that also connects to TETCO, Boardwalk, Enable Gulf Run and FGT pipelines before terminating at the CP2 LNG export terminal.
The commencement of construction activities follows recent approvals from both the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the U.S. Department of Energy, the latter granting non-FTA export authorization last month. CP2 LNG represents Venture Global’s third LNG export facility, following its Calcasieu Pass and Plaquemines (Phase 1) project, consolidating the company’s position as the largest LNG exporter in the United States.
SynMax Vulcan remains committed to ongoing surveillance of the project, specifically tracking key milestones including land clearing for the liquefaction trains and initial structural developments. Updates will be promptly communicated to clients as construction progresses. Venture Global anticipates project completion by 2027, with Vulcan providing consistent monitoring throughout the project's lifecycle.
