EIA-860M Update: 10+ GW Added, 6+ GW Canceled—Key Insights Inside
Time flies when you're having fun! It’s another EIA-860M update. The latest update reveals over 10 GW of additional projects. Gas-fired units are the most popular additions this month, totaling over 5 GW (more than 3 GW combined cycle and approximately 2 GW combustion turbine). Texas saw the largest number of added projects, exceeding 3 GW.
This update also included a significant number of cancellations (over 6 GW) and retirements (over 1 GW). The largest cancellation was Skipjack Offshore Wind Farm Phase 2 846 MW.
Of the canceled projects, over 50% had a project ranking below our 20% threshold. We will continue to refine our ranking methodology to better identify potential cancellations. We observed no changes in our project monitoring this week. Next week, we will incorporate some of the projects added in this latest update. Vulcan clients can access the most recent EIA-860M data by plant ID and generation ID, along with the Vulcan Status, Vulcan Earliest Online, Vulcan Online Date V1 & V2, and our project ranking.
