Power Market ISO 2026 Summer Analysis - Data Center & Generation

Posted on: January 21, 2026

SynMax Research:

Last week, Vulcan clients received a comprehensive report detailing the Data Center and Generation outlooks for various ISOs for Summer 2026. Vulcan users can seamlessly generate these reports themselves each week via our API, Snowflake integration, MS Excel add-in, or directly through the UI. These reports evaluate the real-time status of critical infrastructure projects, providing essential inputs for refining individual power models and broader macro-market forecasts.

Our analysis reveals a significant trend: delays on the data center side are substantial, which is particularly impactful given the high load-factor "baseload" nature of these facilities. On the generation side, the delays are less, the majority are concentrated in solar projects. Because solar typically delivers only 12–25% of its nameplate capacity, these delays have a disproportionately smaller impact on grid reliability compared to the loss of a constant, 24/7 data center load.

In each of our presentations, we provide a sample of delayed data center and power projects, accompanied by a clear description of our visual confirmation. We are in a new world where guessing is no longer necessary. The "ground-truth" provided by Vulcan satellite imaging, combined with our thermal drone capabilities, offers a level of certainty regarding the status of large-scale infrastructure projects that no other information service can provide.

Once again, we clearly demonstrate that you don’t have to guess - you can know with a high level of confidence if a project is likely to miss its expected online date.

The Vulcan Advantage: Turning Uncertainty into Alpha

In an increasingly volatile power market, relying on self-reported developer timelines is a strategy of the past. Vulcan transforms speculation into a competitive advantage by giving you the "first-look" at project slippage before the rest of the market reacts. Whether you are managing risk for a trading desk or optimizing long-term infrastructure investments, load forecasting, our platform ensures your models are built on what is actually happening on the ground—not what is written in a press release. Don't wait for the market to catch up; see the reality first with Vulcan.
